Action! is a Hollywood movie-themed game. The player impersonates an actor and he act out a movie scene from a script.
The conflict of the game is to reproduce in first-person, scenes from movie shots.
Summary of contribution
This is my second group project, done in the second and third years of game design academy.
I was the Lead Designer and i was responsabile of the Concept and Level design.
I built spaces, planned and scripted gameplay and acted as ambassador of the player's experience in the level.
I also worked as a technical designer and programmer support, designing and unlocking pipelines and helping the programmer with visual scripting.

Gameplay Breakdown
For each scene, the player will encounter two phases: Learning phase and Acting phase.
In the learning phase the player will select the scene to be reproduced, and then he will study the storyboard in detail so that he can reproduce it in the best way possible.

In the Acting phase the player will have to reproduce the newly learned scene. The more details the player reproduces the more satisfied the director will be.
In addition, the player will be able to improvise in certain actions to make the scene more spicy and special so as to make the director elated.

The evolution of Level Design
I started with the idea of creating levels where the player, as an actor, could play action movie scenes from storyboards.
In designing the first level, I was greatly inspired by action movies and classic FPS video games.
Later, I divided the level into 4 sub-levels, making them shorter than the first one but more complex and compact.
In addition, I developed a tutorial level, where players can learn basic FPS mechanics and "Scene" mechanics.
After these developments, inspired by puzzle games, I introduced the "secret actions" mechanic. Thanks to this mechanic, the players are free to explore the environment and interact with NPCs to find new creative ways to perform tasks required by the storyboards. This will create the classic mood of improvisation that actors are used to.
